In our Bible study group on Wednesday, we read the Epistle for this Sunday from 1st Timothy, Chapter 6. He says:
As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches but rather on God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share. (The emphasis is mine.}
Compared with most of the World, we are the rich.
- Our goodness is to recognize all people (singular and plural) as human beings who want enough for themselves and their families.
- Our good works are to be of service to others.
- Our generosity is to be significant to ourselves so that we know we made a difference,
- Our readiness to share manifests itself in our helping others. These are things to keep in mind as we search for our next Pastor and as we begin a new year.
