Our BGLIbrary has a new addition in the Creation Care section: the PBS documentary series “A Brief History of the Future.” Through six episodes we’re invited to take a journey around the world, a journey filled with discovery, hope, and possibility about where we find ourselves today and what could come next.
In our present political situations, whether it’s our own country or the larger world, we hear few messages of hope. Rather we hear despair: climate change, war upon war, technological takeover, and so much more. There’s so much misery and gloom, we feel like giving up. The future seems impossible. But this series gives us unique thoughts and suggestions about how we can reimagine things.
On its cover, “A Brief History of the Future asks”: “How can we become the great ancestors the future needs us to be?” I don’t know about you, but when I think about the future, I think in terms of what my generation is leaving for our kids and grandkids. In watching the series, I’m struck with two things. First, I further realize the impact the choices we make today will have on our tomorrows. Second—and more importantly—a highlighting of what can be done to solve our greatest challenges.
