Traveling together at Holy Trinity

From Pastor Tim, September 2018

Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Fall and school are right around the corner and we are getting ready for a new year of Faith Formation at Holy Trinity.

We know there has been a lot of transition here over the last few years. New ideas were implemented. Some succeeded. Some struggled to gain traction. It is a story that has played out at every church, every year. As I begin my first fall here, I am sure it will play out again. There will be some successes and some things that will be….not successes.

We hope you will find there will be something, for everybody, on every Sunday.

What follows is a layout of what will happen (hopefully the successes!) on Sunday morning between services concerning Faith Formation and a brief bit on Confirmation. It incorporates some ideas from John Roberto, while adding in our own flair or flavor.

Sunday Activities between Services

  • 1st Sunday of the month - Faith Learning Groups (Sunday School — Adult Forums)
  • 2nd Sunday of the month - Traveling Together Sunday (Intergenerational activity designed to encourage interaction across the generations to build our faith)
  • 3rd Sunday of the month - Faith Learning Groups (Sunday school — Adult Forums)
  • 4th Sunday of the month - Fellowship (Hang out and talk with each other over food and drink, nothing formal offered. Have fun and laugh!)
  • 5th Sunday of the month - Church wide service project (September we will make baptismal blankets.)

Confirmation - Meet monthly on a Sunday evening and include dinner. (Allow us to be more present with one another and participate in the on Sunday morning opportunities. Additional letter to come.)

Service Projects - In addition to the preceding, there will be several service projects that are geared toward families and young people planned throughout the year. It may entail us going somewhere to serve or it may be as simple as making cookies in our own kitchen and delivering them to various organizations in our community.

There is not a “magic program” that will guarantee young people will grow up and continue to go church. In fact, our main goal should not be to design a program that will guarantee they will go to church when they are older. If that is the case, we are primarily interested in entertaining them. Rather, our main goal is……to let each other, the next generation and all the people we encounter, know that God’s love for them is burns brighter and hotter than a thousand suns.

If we do that, why would anyone want to stay away?!

Life is busy and it is hard to fit everything in. Don’t worry. Don’t try. You can’t. Just try this. Come to worship. It doesn’t matter if your are 5 minutes late and need to leave immediately to get to the next thing. Walk in our doors on Sunday morning and breathe for a bit. Come as you are and be with a group of people who are the same as you, people looking for meaning, purpose, love, forgiveness and acceptance.
