Lenten Meals & Holden Evening Prayer

Lenten Meals will be served every Wednesday evening during Lent, beginning at 5:30pm, followed by Holden Evening Prayer at 6:30pm. Soup will be available for adults, and Mac & Cheese will be served for young children. We will be using offerings from our Lenten meals to fund our commitment to provide scholarships to several students from Isimani to continue their education, as we have done in the past. There will be a display for those who wish to donate or pledge support for a student once the Lenten season begins.

"How to be a practicing Christian when I am not always a believing one.”

Adult forums: March 3, March 17, April 7 (Additional as needed)

We will learn from each other on questions such as:

  • "Why does God sometimes seem silent? our prayers half-hearted and seemingly unanswered? our doubts large and challenging?" (A common condition that the Christian mystics called the 'dark night of the soul.)
  • "What might it mean to be a ‘practicing Christian’ while not always a (fully) 'believing one'?”
  • “Can we have large doubts yet still act with conviction?”
  • “How might practices help us deal honestly with the ups and downs of faith?”
  • “When faith seems weak, how does hope step in?”

Mark Edwards and Pastor Tim will pose questions and offer background, but the adult forum will depend largely on candid and considerate conversation among the participants.

For further reading on the subject, please check out the following book at your local library, bookstore, or on Amazon.com

  • "An Altar in the World" by Barbara Brown Taylor
  • "Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth" by Richard Foster
  • "The Sacred Way: Spiritual Practices for Everyday Life" by Tony Jones
