The Isimani Sewing School - Tanzania, Africa

THE ISIMANI SEWING SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Founded in 2006, the Isimani Sewing School provides training and occupation for girls in this rural setting where access to higher education is difficult.  A gift of six treadle sewing machines from Holy Trinity that same year made the Sewing School a reality.

The Sewing School academic building was completed in 2009.  Students pay a modest tuition for their six-month course and either live at home or are boarded by families in the community.  Classes are taught by Yustina Chaula, wife of the Isimani pastor.  Producing uniforms—required by primary and secondary schools throughout Tanzania—is a primary function.

Graduates go on to professional tailoring positions, particularly in nearby Iringa. Those still residing in Isimani produce bags and accessories for sale locally and for export.
