Earlier this summer the Call Committee reported to the congregation that the Synod had presented us with a new candidate for our pastoral vacancy. We were scheduled to interview the candidate later this month. We have recently learned that this candidate has advanced in the call process with another congregation and, therefore, has withdrawn from consideration at Holy Trinity. As you may recall, the Synod now allows pastors and congregations to participate in multiple call opportunities at the same time. When a candidate advances past a call committee to church council however, that candidate is required to withdraw from all other locations. This new process has advantages and disadvantages for pastors and congregations and, we have experienced both.
I have spoken separately with Bishop Hazelwood and Pastor Tim Roser, Associate to the Bishop. They both assured me that they are doing everything they can to present Holy Trinity with additional candidates. The Bishop shared, as he had when he met with our congregation, that the demand for experienced pastors is high as a result of a large number of retirements within the clergy ranks. Like Holy Trinity, a number of congregations within the New England Synod are in the call process.
Many of us hoped that by this time we would be welcoming a new pastor. It is challenging, and at times frustrating, to remain patient and hopeful. We are blessed however, to have the strong and dedicated leadership of Pastor George, Pastor Grace the Council and many members. The work of the church and God’s people does stop and start with the departure and arrival of a pastor. Thank you for remaining faithful.
Please continue to keep Holy Trinity in your prayers. As always, please let us know if you have any questions, suggestions or would just like to talk. As soon as we are presented with a new candidate(s) , we will let you know.
